Impressions from the 2007 Nationals
Another
National has come in gone. This was the fifth or sixth that I’ve been
able to attend in the past 15 years or so. Congratulations to all the
winners, there were many beautiful and deserving dogs, both in and out
of the ribbons. I had a wonderful time, saw old friends and met some
great new people. All seven of the puppies from our December 9, 2006
Trotyl – Logres’ Brentina litter were entered. Six showed. It was
wonderful to see the puppies all in one place again. Should mention, we
own or co-own Logres’ Feinbrand, Logres' Wahajama, Logres’ Contucci,
Logres' Warkant and Logres’ Contender. Logres’ Voltaire and Logres’
Weihaiwej are owned by dear dear friends in Canada. Overall, we are very
pleased with how the litter did at the National (results are on our Home
Page
http://logresfarm.com/ ). I won’t go into much detail here,
other than to say we are very proud of this litter.
I should mention, we had a few disappointments. First of all, at the
last minute Arthur had to work and could not attend the National. I was
not able to get away until late Wednesday. Thursday was the first day of
judging I saw. As all breeders know, puppies are a reflection of years
of experience, love, dedication and planning. Seeing the hard work and
dreams come to fruition as a young dog you’ve bred steps into the ring
is a thrill beyond compare. I think it broke Arthur’s heart to not be
able to see the litter we’d bred at the National.
Another disappointment was that Warkant was not shown. The small size
of the AOAC entry meant that we’d ultimately be competing directly
against the puppies we'd sold (i.e., Contender, Contucci and Voltaire),
with the male puppy we’d kept (Warkant). That did not seem right, so we
made the decision that Warkant would stay home. I still get a bit of a
sad tinge when I think of Warkant not being there with his littermates,
but we feel we made the right decision for all concerned. There will be
other years for Warkant to shine.
The biggest disappointment by far was that it was all over so soon, and
I had to say goodbye to the wonderful owners of our puppies. I love
these people, each and every one... they are such special friends, it
was really hard to say goodbye. We've made plans to meet up at
Christmas... we're hoping to get together sooner and we’ll be together
again in 2008.
